Re: enneagram and dating
Thu, January 8, 2004 - 9:12 AMI am not familiar with the dating site. However, the enneagram does seem to have it together when it comes to matching people and their numbers. There is a book called "Are You My Type, Am I Yours? : Relationships Made Easy Through The Enneagram" by Rene Baron. It tells you what type of dynamics to expect between relationships of different numbers. I like the fact that it gives you tips that help you deal with the downsides of whatever number you may be dating. -

Tue, January 13, 2004 - 3:58 PMThe book p mentions I have read, and it is quite good at outlining the potential upsides and problem areas of every possible pair of matches.

Wed, January 21, 2004 - 4:12 PMI wonder how "good" matching by enneatype really is-- and to what degree your overall state of mental health (or degree of "self-actualization") has an impact on whether or not any given match will work out.
In theory, it makes sense-- but how well does it translate to "real life?" -

The relationship compatibility information on this site has been really accurate for me. I'm a 6 and I've been in a relationship with a 3 for several years and this site offered a lot of insight. -

Yeah, I know. I've been off over-doing the Social Two thing *sigh* ... I'm also on Orkut and Flickr, and (yes, still) Friendster.

Re: enneagram and dating
Wed, March 17, 2004 - 9:45 AMThanks for the link! I am a 4w5 *obsessed* with a guy I've typed as an 8 (Myers-Briggs ENTJ and damn proud of it). Here's what the Enneagram Institute has to say about 4/8 pairings:
"This can be one of the most creative relationship couplings, although it is also one of the most inherently volatile. Both Enneagram Fours and Eights are intense and have strong emotional responses; both seek to get a reaction from the other, and both can be dominating of their environments—Eights are socially dominant, Fours are emotionally dominant. Both types bring passion, intensity, energy, and deep (often unconscious) feelings to all aspects of the relationship."
In terms of relationships, it seems to me that Fours share some characteristics with people who have Borderline Personality Disorder, including fear of abandonment, wild mood swings, and alternately loving and hating the other person. Or maybe that's just me. -

Re: enneagram and dating
Fri, April 16, 2004 - 8:32 PMIn general, BPD doesn't really "care" what e-type you are, but many Fours I know do seem to show some BPD-ish traits. One of my best friends is a 4w3/sx, and she has often expressed concern that maybe BPD is part of her "problem" in dealing with life (and especially romance). I think the "push-pull" tendencies many Fours display in relationships is purely "personality" not "personality DISORDER." My ex was a Borderline, but she was most definitely NOT a Four. I don't think personality characteristics really become a "disorder" unless they seriously impair a person's ability to function in daily life.
If course that's just my OPINION....
