On riso-hudson version the levels of health run 9 levels from trainwreck to absolutely happy.
On the oral tradition enneagram, the subtype stackings balancing act accounts for levels of health.

Kind of the same thing, but...

What do you think causes one to move in and out of healthy? Is it situational, where others help us find healthy balance? or age and maturity? or natural inborn health or nurtured health in childhood??

What do you think causes us to slide up and down the scale of healthy personality?

Hi - you might want to check out the "Hmm..ponderings of a Six" where there's some discussion on the levels of heath.

To throw my two cents into the mix - I think you're right on all your ideas about movement along the levels of health. As we grow and mature and increase our level of self-awareness, we naturally evolve into "healtier" beings. But we're human and can "slip" when our buttons are pushed by situations and we have emotional reactions to things that are said and done. It brings to mind the nature vs nurture question as well...I personally believe we are all born with a certain set of innate characteristics, that are further refined and developed throughout our childhood experiences, until we're locked into our type. As we age and experience life -and depending on how much soul searching we do & literature on personal growth we read -we evolve into "better" people; more capable of managing ourselves through the bad stuff and into a "healtier" place.
