What do people tend to score across personality systems? Is there is any trend, common thread that weaves it's way through each?

What is your Enneagram type, Myers-Briggs type, and Astrology?

I'm a Nine, INFP, Cancer.

  • I'm 4w5 INFJ & Cancer (sun). Members might find the b1ook "reinventing your Life" by Young rewarding. I just saw 1researchonthe web showing stastical evidence that their 11 maladaptive schema, "lifetraps," have correlation with Enneagram types. The book is awsome on its own BTW. does anyone here have any experience to report on EMDR?
    • The friends I have who have undergone EMDR have reported spectacular results. One went to an old therapist of mine to whom I had referred her and whom I trust implicity. If Alice uses EMDR with her clients, it's good enough for me.

      I'm a high-functioning 8 (I don't understand the w-thing... I thought everybody had wings), ESTJ, Sag/Sag rising/Taurus Moon.
    • i receive a basic training on EMDR an year ago. I experienced it myself and i practiced it for some of my clients, esp for those who experienced some traumatic incidents and was suffering from PTSD. For me, it is like "too good to be true" and and so i always prefer to practice the traditional psychotherapy.

Hi all! 4w5, INFJ. . .and the astrology part is necessarily complicated:
Gemini Sun parallel Pluto(0.01), and inconjucnt Venus(1.1).
This combination isn't typically "Geminian"! Pluto & Venus add elements of intense, possibly obsessive passions. Sex, Taboo stuff, deep psychology. . .not your usual Gemini territory.
So if you will, tell us which planets aspect your natal Sun within 4 degrees. This is just a good start: the whole chart really needs to be taken into account.

          Hi. Four/INTJ/Pisces chiming in!

Has there been even one S that has responded? Interesting.

Thanks for this question; I think that my grouping is kind of interesting, since the Pisceans are supposed to be the great feelers and I am consistently testing T later in life. I used to be an F, but in the last 10 years have tested T. The iNtuition with the Pisces is a no-brainer, and the Four-Pisces thing is a natural.

          Have a great day!

Sorry, Khrysso Heart, I missed your S in there! (That's because I am not detail-oriented being an N!!!)

I would guess that there are a lot of fours here because we are "special"!!!

Seriously, did anyone else have trouble accepting their 4ness? I really, really didn't want to be a four because it sounded like fours were THE narcissistic ones of the whole 9 types. I wanted to be a "helper" (which I think is a two), or a five, but NOT a four. I have now come to accept it - more or less - but I always feel a little awkward telling people I am a four. Is that whacked or what? Anyone else feel the same way?

On the contrary! I *love* being a Four, and I enjoy seeing the variety of labels that authors use to describe us: Individualist, Author, Artist, Romantic, Tragic Romantic (hand-staple-forehead here). It's just the side effects that sometimes trouble me, including difficulties in maintaining relationships and my habit of yearning for the unattainable...

                LOL! Of course!

I've noticed that several responses have mixed 4 and 2.

According to Enneagramic theory, 4 and 2 are connected: Two is the place that 4s go to under stress. (Four is where I, an 8, go for redemption.)

Perhaps if you would prefer to think of yourself as a 2, or if you feel split, as one person said, it could indicate that you feel a sense of refuge in subordinating yourself in altruism and people-pleasing rather than actualizing and celebrating your uniqueness, which is the glory of 4s.

Four's direction of integration is toward 1, which is a perfectionistic location on the Enneagram. Perhaps applying yourself assiduously to studying your unique gifts and perspectives is exactly what you need to do in order to appreciate where your central location is in the Enneagramic universe...

Both 4 and 2 are heart-centered spaces. Growth, according to the theory, comes for 4s in going to their guts, realizing passion and life-force and instincts... or so it seems to me, as a decidedly gut-centered 8...

I'm a 4, INFP, Libra. I'm sure you could get somewhere mapping from Myers-Briggs to the Enneagram though I'm not sure it would be as easy to do with Astrology because you don't get a choice which sign you are. That said, there seem to be a few 4 Libras here and that seems to be a natural match to me. Darla, I felt the same was as you regarding being a 4 and even found it difficult to consider myself a F rather than a T which is how I have to live my life. In the end, however, it's about your preference and for me despite having had to change completely how I present myself in order to be a hard-nosed business person person I still think my underlying preferences haven't changed.

Anyway, back to mapping across systems. Are all 5,6,7, T types; 2,3,4 F types? They should be but what about the gut types 8,9,1? At a guess I'd imagine most 8 and 1 are T types but that 9s would be pretty split.

I can't see any way to map N and S to the Enneagram types. Certainly 4s can be both, this I know, as can Librans, easily.

What about J and P though? This one is more interesting I think. 1,3,5,6,8 seem to be natural Js whereas 9 definitely has P tendencies. I think 2 goes both ways... 4,7 would guess P.

    As for I and E. 5,4 lean toward I. 3,7 lean toward E. 2,6,8 seem more E to me. 1,9 more I.

    Hmmmm....

On mapping between Enneagram and MBTI types

      Sat, June 4, 2005 - 7:53 PM
      Hi Angel,

Here's a website that takes a stab at type correlations: www.geocities.com/lifexplor...pecorr.htm

Most of the tables presented on this website show correlations among my types: 4w5, INFJ, and Oldham Sensitive. It's nice to know that in at least *one* area of my life, I'm not self-contradictory! <grin>

      Denise
      • Hi Denise - Brilliant site - will take some digesting though to see which model matches what I was thinking best! Most of the models there do show a correlation between my INFP and 4ness which is interesting though most seem to think INFJ is more definitely 4 than INFP. One has it dead wrong I think, I am definitely not an E. I particularly like the chart at the bottom in colour, makes it much easier to see across types where the generalisations are. Some are so easy to spot - the INTJ are so 5-like for example, but others are much harder.
        • That *is* a great site Denise, ty!

We're cut from the same cloth: INFJ, 4w/5.

My 5 side is squeeking this morning:
In the form of a mini-rant, lol.

Sun Signs BY THEMSELVES say so frickin little!!!! Having carefully studied over a thousand charts of family, friends, mates, and popularly-known people, I'm in a good position to say this!
You must know what ASPECTS inform that Sun.
For instance, an Aries Sun conjunct Neptune will be much more laid back and tolerant than a pure "Aries Type".
And a Pisces Sun conjunct Mars won't be Pisces-typical laid-back.

Almost always there are several aspects to the Sun. I pay particular attention to the 30 degree multiples (the more exact, the more dominant.) AND I pay close attention to the MIDPOINT 'tree' to the Sun. Often, an accurate picture of one's Sun only emerges when you look at all those midpoints.

e.g. Gemini Sun : parallel Pluto (exact), inconjunct Venus.

          =Jupiter/Uranus=Jupiter/Chiron=Venus/Pluto=Mercury/Mars
          =Moon/Pluto.

This gives us SO MUCH more info than "Gemini"!

          OK, rant over, lol.
          • An ignorant question, but please educate me. How does one determine one's "wing"?

I, if you might remember, gentle readers, am the reluctant 4 (but I am getting there!), and suspect a 5 wing. How do I know? I think I am MUCH more 5 than 3, but I don't get the wing thing.

            Help!!

            Thanks,

            D.

              Hi Darla!

If you are indeed a 4w5 like me, welcome to the Bohemians! (See www.enneagraminstitute.com/TypeFour.asp )

I found this description via Google:

              Four With a 5 Wing
Healthy side of this wing brings a withdrawn, complex creativity. May be somewhat intellectual but have exceptional depth of feeling and insight. Very much their own person; original and idiosyncratic. Have a spiritual and aesthetic openness. Will find multiple levels of meaning to most events. May have a strong need and ability to pour themselves into artistic creations. Loners; can seem enigmatic and hard to read. Externally reserved and internally resonant. When they open up it can be sudden and total. When entranced or defensive, Fours with a 5 wing can easily feel alienated and depressed. Many have a sense of not belonging, of being from another planet. Can get lost in their own process, drown in their own ocean. Whiny - tend to ruminate and relive past experience. Prone to the emotion of shame. Air of sullen, withdrawn disappointment. May live within a private mythology of pain and loss. Can get deeply morbid and fall in love with death.

                Hi Denise and all,

I love the title "Bohemian" and can really relate to the below description. I also am a 4w5. I'm an INTJ, but T/F border; and a Taurus Sun (Leo Moon and Asc). I definitely see a correlation between MBTI and the Enneagram. In some people it's more evident than others. For instance, I'm a strong I, therefore Enneagram-wise, 4 and 5 really make sense. Since I'm a T/F border, I've had a hard time determinining if I'm a 4w5 or a 5w4, but after 10 years of reading/study/contemplation, I'm sure I'm a 4w5.

Astrologically, it's more difficult to make the connection from just the sun sign. The whole chart really has to be taken into account to see the behavior correlations with MBTI and Enneagram types. A new theory I've been reading about is the Enneaplanet connection. Each Ennagram type is related to a planet and that planet in your chart is likely a focal planet or one under duress. Not so much in my chart, but I know the issues I've had and continue to have all relate to my Enneaplanet. For more info on this, see enneagramplanet.com/

                  Hello Vickie and tribe;
I am new to the Tribe site so I hope I am doing this correctly!

I am the person who originated the "Enneastrology" theory and the web site you referenced, Enneagram Planet. My theory places emphasis on the planets vs. the signs in the birth chart. The "least integrated" planet is the one that creates Enneagram type characteristics and behaviors. If you are a type Four, for example, I would expect to see hard aspects to the planet Venus in your chart, or perhaps a Venus-Saturn or Venus-Mars aspect, or Venus in the 12th or seventh house....(hidden or projected qualities)--that kind of thing.

You are very right, it is hard to point to a sign and correlate it to a Ennea type.

I am enjoying reading these posts.

I'm an ENFP Liibran (stellium of 6 planets in Libra in the 8th house) who thought for the last 10 years that she was a 4. What I have since found out is that I was just a 7 with a lot of awareness about how my seveness was causing me so much pain, and was therefore depressed and thought that I was a 4.
The thing is, my E functioning isn't that strong, so I sometimes look like an INFP.
I think LIbra and 4 are alike.

    INTJ
Virgo (6 planets!) w/ Gemini rising
    year of the Rabbit
    Yellow vMEME (Spiral Dynamics)

... and fit all those descriptions quite well.

The book "The Enneagram Made Easy" has a section in the back that shows correlates between Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram. I haven't seen a connection made with astrology and agree it would be hard given the complexity of astrology.

      Enneagram: 4w5
      MBTI: INFP
      Western Astrology: Leo (Sun Rising)
      Chinese Astrology: Water-Rat

One thing about me that has frustrated my attempts at self-classification is the fact that I am a very fluid individual, who adapts to various situations and people quite quickly, with different personality characteristics and traits...I'm very chameleon-like, in other words. In terms of the MBTI, I've tested as a few different types, though I test MOST often as INFP.

Great thread. Glad I found it, and the interesting links embodied herein. After using the Enneagram for over 10 years, I'm finally going to the 9-night exemplar class (w/Sharon Berbower in Berkeley). It's definitely been making me wonder, anew, about correlations with the other typology systems I'm most familiar with--the Myers-Briggs/Jungian and Western and Chinese Astrology.

I'm a 5w6 social type; Virgo w/Aquarius rising and Sag moon, Year of the Goat; ENFP (ESTJ when I first started taking the test over 20 years ago, but saw a dramatic shift in the last several years).

The Myers-Briggs, specifically. I read that one study found that between 39 and 76 percent of people tested into a different type after retesting. However, I haven't tried to look up the original study.

Not trying to rouse rabble, just hot debate!

Well, I've taken it multiple times, including twice *officially* and come up with the same results - borderline I/E and T/J and strongly NP. The unofficial tests that are out on the web tend to come up similarly.

My enneagram has me solidly and unwaveringly as a nine, no questions about it.

<I read that one study found that between 39 and 76 percent of people tested into a different type after retesting.>

It can vary in aspects of personality where someone is more in the middle of the road rather than full on one way or the other (I vary from introvert to extrovert depending on the test and I do classify myself as an introverted extrovert so it works for me).

Also, a big problem with such a study you mention is the participants' level of honesty. People in studies know that they are being studied and are prone to answer the way they feel they should, not necessarily the way they are. They may answer honestly for one of the tests but not necessarily for the other for various reasons, therefore skewing the results.

      Meghan,

The points you brought up are valid. The reason for different results when the test is taken at different times is that we are all mult-faceted creatures. No one fits squarely into one personality type. The key to resolving these issues is to take the tests at different times during your life, then you will see which type is your primary and which ones are secondary, through averaging.

I've taken both the Myers-Briggs and the enneagram several times through life, and can see my major types now.

I am nearly always an INFJ, but I have scored as an INFP, and, once, as an ENFJ--all over the last several years (first took the test in a college class). Therefore, I can see I'm basically INFJ, with some INFP or, sometimes, ENFJ traits.

As far as the enneagram, I have always scored as a 4, sometimes with a 3 and sometimes a 5 wing. However, I've scored very highly as a 7 before too, and sometimes have some 6 traits. I average it all out, and I see I'm basically a 4 (true), but that I have 3,5 wings, as well as 7 traits, and maybe some 6 tendencies. It's not that the tests aren't predictive, it's that getting different types reflects the complexity of being human, and taking the tests several times is the best road to self-knowledge.

Astrologically, I'm a Scorpio Sun, Aries Moon, and Aquarius Rising.

(I actually just brought up the enneagram on a thread on the astrology tribe about the correlation between Myers-Briggs types & astrology.)

Sorry it took me awhile to reply. The thread is called "astrology experiment." It was started by someone who wanted people to list their astrological signs and their Myers-Briggs types. I brought up adding the enneagram in when I posted (need to scroll way down), but either people weren't interested in adding the enneagram in, didn't know what it was, or my post got lost in the shuffle.

You could go and post with all three things if you wanted. Maybe it would pique interest in the enneagram.

Wow...I recently started looking into this as a Health Sciences

is SUGGESTED but has not been studied on this subject.

I am an ENFP, borderline ENTP, Gemini, Bipolar-diagnosed female
who is a 7 on the Enneagram.

Seems several of the ENFP's on this website definitly had the 7 theme.
Gemini and 7 fit well together, and it absolutely fits well with any ENFP's
    as well!
We're scattered, fun, social, all over the place, indecisive for fear of losing
    opportunity, interesting, interesTED in EVERYTHING...etc.
Seem familiar??? Let me know! I'm really interested in whether or not
a lot of individuals' who are ENFP's have also been diagnosed with some
    form of mania/depression or bipolar/cyclothymia.

      hey its "Match.com" !!

4/1 INFP Scorp (Sun) Sag (Rising) Metal Dog looking for 9 INFP Cancer (Sun) Leo (Rising) Water Monkey.......just kidding.

I actually read this ENTIRE thread - holy INFP and 4 types!

My head is spinning from all the testing information - in attempting to gain more insight into who I am (we are) ....am I not / are we not, just labeling ourselves; putting ourselves into a box?

I wonder if, as a teenager, I would have tested the same? Are any of these tests (aside from those which are based on natal charting) CONSISTENT or is the point to see where you are and work on those things you don't like about yourself while expressing those things you do like?

There's a chart here that shows pretty darn good accuracy. It matches up with most of your responses, however if it doesn't it's usually because of the "masks"(MBTI term) you have developed, for example, an ENFP supposedly likes to wear an ENTJ mask, and if you are an ENFP with an enneagram type 8, then to me it's just the mask that explains the difference from the chart on that link. For the most part though it matches with most of your responses and my own as well.

I'm 5, INTJ. don't know anything about astrology...

    I thought I was a 4 but just learned today I am a 9. I'm also an INFP and a Taurus!

Huh, Alexandra! We have some serious overlap!

I am a Taurus Sun (12th House) with a Scorpio Moon (6th House) and Gemini Rising (ruled by an 11th House Aries Mercury).

I fluctuate between INFP and ENFP, though I've been getting E more and more as I've grown older and somewhat less shy/insecure/inhibited.

I just recently started investigating enneagrams, but I tend to shift a lot in results and am not sure yet what I should really be typing as. I think I'm a 4 or a 9, but probably a 9. I get 2 a lot, also, but I'm less confident or proud than most 2 descriptions let on that I should be, as a 2... though I do obsessively help others because I want to feel useful and loved and hold on to connections to loved ones, though a lot of it is also to make up for general personal insecurity/lack of meaning/not dealing with my own work, which is more 9 stuff, right? And I'm quite accommodating and laid back, typically. And I do a lot of the basking-in-melancholy, tragic-hopeless-obsessive-romantic, fascinated-with-emotional-self-awareness-and-analysis, envious-desire-to-be-unique-and-special-and-creative 4 stuff, too. Sigh! No idea........

So, anyhow, Taurus, INFP, 4/9 connection.

      Interesting topic!

    Hey All,

    INFP

Scorpio Sun13'/Venus15'/MC16'/Uranus16', Aquarius Moon 0', Capricorn Ascendant 20'
Sagittarius Mars3'/Merc4', Leo Jupiter 8', Virgo Saturn 11' (chart ruler), Pisces South Node 25'

My Primary Enneagram is Individualist, then Challenger maybe?, then PeaceMaker, i guess

    I'm sort of everything.

I seem to identify with all nine enneagram types, and all twelve zodiac signs.
(I'm not familiar with the Meyers Briggs types, just my own, INFP.)

But that's largely because i have no focus (mercury tightly conjunct mars in Sagittarius)
and i'm too moody, and too fragmented and scattered, spread-out in my awareness,
    and self-awareness.

I like to say that some people's minds are like gardens...
well-cultivated and producing an array of beautiful flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs.
And my mind is a little different. Its a jungle in there.
But exotic medicines are found in places like this.

I think I am a 4 (2 and 6 came up quite strongly too). Pisces (Capricorn Moon). INFP.

It fascinates me that there are so many NFs on here, either INFP, ENFP, INFJ, etc, but the intuitive, feeling side is coming through strongly. It is exciting to find that there are other self absorbed people like me who would rather be trying to understand the self than out clubbing.

Astrology is far more complex, as one of you said. The sun sign is only a small part of the bigger picture.

Wouldn't it be interesting if someone did a thesis on the correlation between ancient forms of wisdom like astrology, numerology, enneagram, and psychology like Myers Briggs. By the way, what are your numerology readings. I am a 6 with a soul expression of 1.

    Happy analysing.
