Ah! So *you're* who I thank!

It's funny, a lot of people have pegged me for a 4 over the years, but I'm really, in my heart of hearts, an 8. A highly individualistic 8, yes, and pretty well rehabilitated so that sometimes I act downright Two-like, but still, when all is said and done, an 8.

I think 8s, in the literature, get a bad rap because we come on so strong. I've read some pretty lousy stuff about myself as an 8 in Enneagram books, but I've learned to love myself for who I am, complete with all my neuroses and defense mechanisms.

I have my survival skills to thank for my survival, even if it is time to dismiss them with my thanks and a "That will be all."

I love finding other people who are Enneagram-literate, and am even happier to find people who are able to be self-aware as 8s; it's been a while since I've met any. So thanks for this tribe, and for that one.

      yeah... glad to meet you

I'm an 8 who's also an INFP... true!

and I have met plenty of 8s who do fit those bad profiles but there are those of us who have worked on our shit...
      • Okay. I need to wrap my brain around this INFP thing...

Seriously, when I'm not in task mode, I'm much more like an ENFP than like my normal (and more typical for 8s) ESTJ. So another kind of NFP shouldn't surprise me that much, even if it's one of those da*ned too-quiet, keep-to-themselves introverts... ;-)

I've had people who look at me shocked when I tell them I'm a J. I laugh at them and tell them, "Oh, honey, you just wait, you'll see."

I suspect that ENTJs are even better represented among 8s than ESTJs are. Most of the ones I know are pit bulls, or at least capable of it... and of course that's why I admire them so much.

But I guess that conversation should wend its way over to the Eights tribe...
