Are there any threes out there? Are we too busy working to improve our image that we don't dare tribe?
Well, I'm a 3 and I'm proud of it. I'm working hard these days on becoming more self-accepting and more authentic (to the tune of about $10,000 worth of therapy). Oh yea and I'm trying to be more modest. Well, I'm kind of working on that. To be truthful (and authentic) sometimes I like to exploit my immodest side. It blows people away and I kind of like that feeling.
Anyone else working at shedding a negative trait in favor of going towards a healthy behavior? Not just for 3s of course. I'd like to hear from everyone!

Re: Threes?
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 12:54 PMHi, this is Ken again. And I'm a nine. I have said that one of the reason I'm here is to learn how people are using this amazing tool. Certainly you are using it!
So I have some quesitons again: what do you consider a negative trait and what do you consider a healthy behavior? Using your resources to take care of yourself is clearly a healthy behavior. Strutting yourself is something that 3's are really good at and you're not shy. And I won't say that you should slow that down.
In the system that Caludio Naranjo taught and that is the source of the teachings you're using, the three point was called "Go" and that encapsulates the kind of energy that is hard for a 3 to control. The underlying false value is lying, but that's true of all inautheniticy. Is it more that the trajectory of that behavior is so fascinating that it is hard to control it? Or that you only pretend to? I have such an admiration for 3's and they have always been so important in my life. You actually seem to get things done, realize projects, take risks, act like there's something to life. Or have you just been pulling the wool over our eyes? -

Re: Threes?
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 2:25 PMWhen you say "this tool" do you mean tribe? Or the Enneagram?
First, let me say that I am very new to the Enneagram. I only learned of it for the first time a year ago. I've been reading lots and lots on line but haven't even picked up a book yet. I've have talked about it with several people who have studied it extensively.
I consider negative Three traits to be: being inauthentic, adapting so adeptly that we lose sense of ourselves and what *we* want as opposed to what others want from us, driving ourselves to exhaustion with intent to impress others, narcissism, social climbing...there are more of course but these come to mind right off the bat.
The healthy behaviors that I would like to exhibit in place of those could be summed up by a desire to take a breath every now and again, ask myself what it is I really want and then be honest about it to myself and others about how to go about achieveing it. I generally don't lie to others, just to myself. I will sometimes tell people what they want to hear but I do have to belive it. It can't be total bullshit.
What I love about being a Three: boundless energy, ability to get things done and motivate others with my contagious energy, and of course the confidence that I *can* get it all done. Cuz I can. :-) Usually. Oops, gotta watch that narcissism.
I have quite a few important 9s in my life. I seem drawn to them. Partly b/c I love to motivate them and get them going. 9s are my loyal side kicks. They will usually help me out when I'm in over my head on a project. I think, also I'm attracted to their sense of peace. And in ways I'm like them. In stress 3s to go 9. I am sure to put my head in the sand like a 9 when I get way stressed.
