Ask your friends. They can perhaps see you more objectively than you can. If they don't know the Enneagram, read the book with them. It will be a fun way to bond and get to know each other better.

My ex-boyfriend though for years that he was a 1, and I thought so, too. But when he took the Hudson/Riso test, it said he was a 4, a type he had never read much about. When he read the description, it clicked and now we both understand why he was so self-absorbed and temperamental all the time. We've both grown over the years and the Enneagram was a big help to us. I'm a 9/8 wing, btw. He was the emotional hurricane and I was the still-to-a-fault center.

Do you have never ending self-critical chatter in your head? Y-more 1, 4 seem to be more outwardly emotional and dramatic, they do have perfectionistic qualities but in the 1 they are more outwardly visible. 1's are very neat & organized, 4 experience more envy and jealousy wanting to be like others, 1 tend to think everyone should be like/think the way they do and everything would be fine. And don't laugh.....but what's your hair like? One's tend to have neat, well grooomed hair usually short or a bob. Look at the wings, and the disintegration points for each and see what feels right.
The only decent test is the long one by Riso/Hudson 144 questions, you have to buy the book.

Sandra Maitri's Enneagram book , The Spiritual Diminsion of the Enneagram I feel is the best....it has very good description of the 4. and like everyone else said when you read the types, the one that causes you to have a physical/emotional reaction...Bingo

A connection between a 1 and 4 is in the lines of development. When a 4 is healthy and striving towards personal development, he/she takes on some of the positive traits of a 1. Perhaps this is you?
