Tony is an 8 for sure and yes fictional writers do use the Enneagram. If you combine it with Christopher Vogel's book The Writers Journey then u've got a great recipe for a deeply characterised book and the same structure that Lucas used in Star Wars...

We are writing a book currently and the characters have all been developed using enneagram types.. really cool stuff.. still in development.. and designed to promote our desire to have people let go of the false personality and find themselves.. in natural settings..

My partner and I type TV/ movie characters all the time!
Most recent was the movie "Waitress" about a 2 surrounded by 8s.
Capn Kirk is probably a 5 or a 7.

I found that treckie site really amusing but I don't know the series well enough to say aye or nay. But about fictional characters, here is a book that several people have recommended: Searle, Judith, The Literary Enneagram: Characters from the Inside Out, Metamorphous Press (2001). If there are some others out there who have read Ms. Searle's book, what did you think?

I wonder about the quality of Tony Soprano's self reflection. It is not that of a three who and it is quite refined for an 8.

Do any of you ever try to type fictional characters? I do it all the time when I watch The Sopranos (Is Tony a 3? Or an 8?). I realize it is an exercise in futility because we'll never really know. But, it's fun! Then I start to think about how deep and real you could make fictional characters if you utilized the Enneagram during the character development process. I wonder if successful screenwriters or novelists do this.

So, today I'm cruising around the web and I find this website that types Star Trek characters:
http://www.enneatrek.com/

I'm not a big Trekkie but I've seen enough to appreciate what the author of this website has done. It is very interesting. I figured I'd pass it on and see what others think of typing fictional characters. Have you done it? What do you think about Tony Soprano?
