Thank God someone mentioned Claudio's books. 'Character and Neurosis' is indeed a hard read. (Claudio never dumbs it down or has writing a best seller in mind.) But then I like 'Ennea-type Structures : Self-Analysis for the Seeker.' Though not the Source of this system, it is closer than most of the written stuff out there.

Typing one's own personality is just a tough business. In 1972 I was typed as a 7 and "lived an OK life like a good 7 should" for many years until Claudio re-typed me a 9 about 12 years ago.

I remember my conversation with a really good friend who is a great human, loving, caring, looking after the good of everyone, a classic even keeled 9! He also knows the enneagram quite well as a theory. I asked his type and he said that his wife, also an astute observer, says he is a redeemed 8. I expressed my astonishment, and S just said, "I'm no ass kisser." Bingo. I guess that it takes a rebellious 9 to see one.

i wouldn't assume that a 5 wouldn't find the enneagram intellectually appealing----talking about it however is a process depending on who and what context. usually its a waste of time because either the person in question mentally aligns the enneagram with astrology/numerology or the intellectual superiority of the 5 in general, and concerning the enneagram in particular makes conversation/discussion(boards) incredibly frustrating.

Sexual (or one-to-one): focus is on a one-to-one realtionship, or significant other

I thought I was a 4w? but after going to the above mentioned site I was typed a 7w?. Although instinct (which I heavily believe is the true way to type) tells me I'm a four, I have always idealized 7's and looked for relationships with them.
I joined Tribe two weeks ago, but only today am I getting up the nerve to post. I'm very, very shy.

I'm also a Sexual 4w5, Myers-Briggs INFJ, and Oldham Sensitive. (And for those of you who have read Elaine Aron's book, I'm also a Highly Sensitive Person.) Here's a website that I have found useful in showing the correspondences among various personality typologies: http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/Resort/5446/correspondence.html

For more information on the subtypes, check out http://www.9types.com/type4board/messages/10045.html. I particularly like the description of the Sexual Four found there:

"SX 4s are the most emotional and romantic Fours who exemplify the Four's passionate approach to life. They live
completely by the heart, following every feeling, which can sometimes get them in trouble if they are not careful.
Intense fantasies of sunset kisses, and making love in a forest, swirl around in this variant's head, as they are the
most erotic of Fours. Their emotions are like roller coasters - from the dizzying highs of love, to the sour lows of
melancholy. One advantage of being so in tune with their feelings, is that they are also the potentially most
creative. The stereotypical artist with turbulent emotions and original art is a SX 4. Issues involving their identity
are not as prevalent as they are in SP and SCs, but instead take a back seat to their dominant emotional world of
love, hatred, happiness and melancholy."
