I've taken the Gallup and the DISC. I got a lot more out of the Gallup one, and felt the strengths described me pretty well. The DISC I thought was very limited and limiting - talk about putting yourself in a box. And I didn't relate to the answers much at all - didn't feel it did much to describe me as a person.

I'm going to follow up on this because I'm sure people know this test. It's the DISC test. Drive, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. I complained back to the consultants and they told the authors of the test who suggested that I do the American version. I did that and it came back a lot closer. I've been living outside the US for over 20 years so was really surprised that it made a difference. I think it was more likely the fact that I now knew how the thing worked and so second guessed myself into the result which reflects how I see myself! I didn't do it consciously but I'm sure there was an element of that because it was a serious matter in the workplace and I didn't want them to tell me I couldn't do my job!

By the Gallup strength test, do you mean the positive psychology VIA Signature Strengths? Martin Seligman has several tests on authentichapppiness.org The whole positive psy movement is a welcomed balance in psychology. I believe we are not just our character defects and disorders, balancing psy research and focus on strengths as well as deficits only makes good sense.
I'm not familiar with the Thomas International PPA; I'll look it up and see.

Are you a 6? Are all sources of information really equal and valuable? Only you can say if you don't know yourself, right? Anyway I am just a 9 who is a sucker for anything that validates that I really matter.

I've had consultants in over the last week to help me sort out my business and they gave me two tests. Has anyone ever had either the Thomas International PPA or the Gallup Strengths tests? I was really impressed with the Gallup one but the Thomas profile came back so strangely, I didn't recognise myself at all. I was suprised because I usually find my results do describe me well on other models. I am completely confused now, thinking what if it's right? Am I really someone I don't know?
